The Decision To Home Educate
A growing number of parents are opting to home educate their children. This could be for a multitude of reasons. The Children’s Commissioner, has stated unequivocally that “there are obvious indicators that the expansion in home education is tied to the rise in children leaving school due to their needs not being met,” a terrible reflection on the system.
Home educators are not required to use the National Curriculum, however many parents want to use it, at least in part, to offer structure to learning. Regardless of the manner of instruction employed, it is a legal responsibility for home schooling parents to ensure that their children are literate and numerate to the level required for their age, ability, and any special needs.
